The Interreg MED Green Growth Community

The Interreg MED Green Growth Community counts 14 modular projects under the INTERREG MED Priority Axis 1: “Promoting Mediterranean innovation capacities to develop smart and sustainable growth” and its Programme-Specific Objective 1.1: “To increase transnational activity of innovative clusters and networks of key sectors of the MED area”. These projects are:

MADRE - Metropolitan Agriculture for Developing an Innovative, Sustainable and Responsible Economy

Metropolitan & peri-urban agriculture (MPA) still suffers from a "mainstreaming gap" and is often overlooked by public policies. MADRE gathered key MPA stakeholders in the MED area to foster change in the urban food supply model. The project capitalized on knowledge, pilot actions, policies and networks in order to initiate a transnational clustering process through a pluralistic & multilevel partnership involving 5 MED countries.

MED GREENHOUSES -  Green Growth through the capitalization of innovative Greenhouses

Capitalizing on the results of the LIFE+ "Adapt2change" project,  MED GREENHOUSES stimulated environmental awareness on energy & water efficiency as well as on sustainable production, thereby minimizing water & energy demand. It created a transnational innovative cluster and agricultural network for knowledge transfer and training on these items, leading to the elaboration of a joint MED action plan and e-learning platform. The project also developed tailored policy recommendations for eco-innovation investments and identified potential financial opportunities tailored to the needs of each MED region.

GREENOMED - Mediterranean Trans-Regional Cooperation for green manufacturing innovation

The lack of pilot plants accessible to companies limits the industrial exploitation of European research results that could make manufacturing more sustainable. GREENOMED established a cluster-governed methodology for trans-regional cooperation to i) design & implement pilot plants for green manufacturing innovation and ii) establish the institutional environment to support trans-national cooperation for green manufacturing innovation in the MED regions

PEFMED- Uptake of the Product Environmental Footprint across the MED agro-food regional productive systems to enhance innovation and market value

PEFMED tested the applicability of the EU Environmental Footprint method over several regional agro-food systems and within specific testimonial product groups. The project fostered targeted systemic interventions to green the agro-food supply chain, to promote the market uptake of eco-innovative patterns and to maintain competitiveness in the framework of the regional Smart Specialization Strategy.

FINMED - Boosting the financing of innovation for green growth sectors through innovative clusters services in the MED area

finMED aims to boost the financing of innovation in green growth sectors through improved policy and strategy delivery and the introduction of innovative cluster services. finMED is an integrated project comprising 48 months to study, test, transfer and capitalize on concrete solutions to sustain the financing of green innovation, illustrating that green growth is a win-win and viable strategy for the future of citizens, private sectors, investors and financiers.

RE-LIVE WASTE Improving innovation capacities of private and public actors for sustainable and profitable REcycling of LIVEstock WASTE

Agriculture and livestock are key sectors in the MED area. The regions involved in the project are characterized by intensive cattle and pig farming that produces waste, which is an environmental challenge for society and an economic problem for farmers. RE-LIVE WASTE tested pilot plants which transform livestock waste into organic high-value commercial fertilizers, contributing to smart and sustainable growth and the creation of new business and market opportunities.

EMBRACE European Med-clusters Boosting Remunerative Agro-wine Circular Economy

EMBRACE supported innovation processes in the MED area based on circular economy principles and practices. By capitalizing on methods and instruments, the project tested a model and toolkit for the establishment of two transnational meta-clusters in two leading sectors of the MED economy: Wine and Agrofood.

ESMARTCITY- Enabling Smarter City in the MED Area through Networking

ESMARTCITY improved the innovation capacity of MED cities by creating innovative ecosystems around the Quadruple Helix of actors. To this end, the project piloted Smart City ideas using digital and energy efficiency technologies to provide better services to citizens with less environmental impacts, notably through the deployment of pilots for intelligent districts, smarter energy and smarter lighting in the MED area.

CAMARG - Clusters of Innovative Zero-km Agro-food Marketplaces for Growth

CAMARG’s aim was to provide high-quality, zero-km agro-food products directly on customers’ tables at the same price as standard-quality, mass-retail products. To do so, CAMARG tested and validated an advanced e-commerce solution suited to supporting small producers in any MED territory characterized by excellence in agro-food. The web-based service supported clusters of small local producers in organizing self-sustaining supply networks capable of delivering selected foods to the consumers’ locations on a daily basis.

GREEN MIND - GREEN and smart Mobility INDustry innovation

GREEN MIND addressed the challenge of developing economic competitiveness & innovation in the green & smart mobility industry by strengthening regional & transnational cooperation between businesses, research bodies and authorities in the Mediterranean area. This included transport services and technologies as well as the broader innovation potential of this field for numerous sectors such as transport and logistics, the automotive industry, information technology and energy.

CREAINNOVATION - Create sustainable Innovation in SMEs using creative methods and processes

CREAINNOVATION extended and deepened both the knowledge and practice of creative innovation support methodologies and processes for SMEs and public and academic institutions. This approach led to real & feasible ideas for innovation in these organizations, developing structured processes for new policies and tailored support and taking innovation to the next level through knowledge, practical experimentation and creative problem-solving.

REINWASTE - REmanufacture the food supply chain by testing INNovative solutions for zero inorganic WASTE

REINWASTE aimed to contribute to the reduction of inorganic waste by encouraging green innovation in the agrifood industry with a focus on SMEs. The project transferred knowledge and tested innovative solutions in 3 value chains (Italy: dairy; Spain: horticulture; France: meat). These “clusters” allowed the project to assess the feasibility of a new service offering innovative solutions for waste prevention, while developing protocols and transferability plans to support waste minimization in agrifood chains.

GRASPINNO- Transnational model, strategies & decision support for innovative clusters & business networks towards green growth, focusing on green e-procurement in energy efficiency/RES for the energy refurbishment of public buildings

GRASPINNO provided innovative green procurement solutions for energy savings and the efficient refurbishment of public buildings. It improved the capacity of: i) public authorities to set quality green energy requirements and ii) SMEs to propose solutions that implement these requirements and enter the green energy market. Consolidating previous EU project results, GRASPINNO integrated a framework of strategies, methods, databases & tools through numerous pilots. The replicability, transferability & leverage effect allowed the project to provide smart, low-cost and sustainable solutions in the MED area.

ARISTOIL- Reinforcement of Mediterranean olive oil sector competitiveness through the development and application of innovative production and quality control methodologies related to olive oil’s  beneficial health properties

ARISTOIL aimed to reinforce the competitiveness of the Mediterranean olive oil sector through the development and application of innovative production and quality control methodologies related to olive oil’s health-enhancing properties. The project allowed Mediterranean olive oil producers to increase the value of their products, expand their knowledge and capacity and increase demand for high-quality olive oil.
