The Interreg MED Green Growth Community counts 14 modular projects under the priority Axis 1 “Promoting Mediterranean innovation capacities to develop smart and sustainable growth and the programme specific objective 1.1 “To increase transnational activity of innovative clusters and networks of key sectors of the MED area”, which are:


Metropolitan Agriculture for Developing an innovative, sustainable and Responsible Economy

Metropolitan & periurban agriculture (MPA) still suffers from a "mainstreaming gap", remaining overlooked by public policies. MADRE will gather MPA key stakeholders & create a transnational cooperation in the MED area to foster a change process in the urban food supply model. The project will capitalize on knowledge, pilot actions, policies and networks in order to pave the way for MPA stakeholders’ empowerment & commitment to initiating a transnational clustering process. Such a process will involve a pluralistic & multilevel partnership from 5 MED countries.


Uptake of the Product Environmental Footprint across the MED agro-food regional productive systems to enhance innovation and market value

The project aims to test the applicability of the EU Environmental Footprint method over some regional agro-food systems and within specific testimonial product groups, tailoring it to the geographic context, thus going beyond the efficiency analysis so as to account for the different functions the food and the production systems provide. The final aim is to foster targeted systemic interventions to green the agro-food supply chain, promote the market uptake of eco-innovative patterns and maintain the competitiveness in the frame of the regional Smart Specialization Strategy.


Enabling Smarter City in the MED Area through Networking

The main objective of ESMARTCITY is the improvement of the innovation capacity of the cities in the MED region by creating innovative ecosystems, involving Quadruple Helix ACTORS. To this end, the project aims to pilot the ideas of the Smart City, using digital technologies and energy efficiency technologies to provide better services to the citizens with less environmental impact.

The project stands up to the challenge of enhancing the necessary public authority/citizen pull to match the already existing technology push driving at large the Smart City market. To this end it will enroll to a multinational pilot deployment in the MED area related to the application areas of intelligent districts, smarter energy and smarter lighting.




Improving innovation capacities of private and public actors for sustainable and profitable REcycling of LIVEstock WASTE

Agriculture and livestock are key sectors in the MED area. The regions involved in the project are characterized by intensive cattle and pig farming, producing a large amount of waste that represent a major source of pollution, an environmental challenge for society and an economic problem for farmers. There is a great untapped potential for MED regions to spread the use of innovative technologies which convert livestock waste into a resource.

RE-LIVE WASTE tests pilot plants which transform livestock waste into organic high-value commercial fertilizers, contributing to smart and sustainable growth and to the creation of new business and market opportunities.




European Med-clusters Boosting Remunerative Agro-wine Circular Economy

embrace project aims to integrate the principles of Circular Economy in SMEs and organizations of wine and agro-food sectors in the MED area, in order to address common challenges that SMEs face all over the MED area. The main objective of embrace is to support innovation process in MED area according to the principle of Circular Economy by capitalizing methods and instruments through an innovative toolkit, which will be delivered through service-providers. 


Clusters of Innovative Zero-km Agro-food Marketplaces for Growth

High-quality zero-km agro-food products directly on your table at the same price of standard-quality mass retail stuff. This is the CAMARG aim, pursued by the testing and validation of an advanced eCommerce solution suited to support small producers in any MED territory characterized by agro-food excellences. The web-based service will support clusters of small local producers in organizing self-sustaining supply networks able to deliver daily the selected food to the consumer locations.


Reinforcement of Mediterranean olive oil sector competitiveness through development and application of innovative production and quality control methodologies related to olive oil health protecting properties

ARISTOIL aims to reinforce the competitiveness of the Mediterranean olive oil sector through the development and application of innovative production and quality control methodologies related to olive oil health protecting properties. The core objectives of the project are: to provide Mediterranean producers of olive oil the potential to increase the value of their product, to increase Knowledge capacity of olive oil producers and to Increase demand for high quality olive oil.


Boosting the financing of innovation for green growth sectors through innovative clusters services in the MED area

finMED is the only Integrated project belonging to the MED Green Growth Community and will have 48 months to study, test, transfer and capitalize concrete solutions to sustain the financing of innovation for green sectors. It integrates efforts, practices and actions among different kind of actors, enforcing the idea that green growth is a win win viable strategy for the future of citizens, private sectors, investors and financers, and it must be sustained with proper financing practices. 

finMED aims to boost the financing of innovation in green growth sectors through improved delivery of policies and strategies and the introduction of innovative cluster services.




Create sustainable Innovation in SMEs using creative methods and processes

The project aims to extend and deepen both knowledge and practice of creative methodologies and processes in MED SMEs, mainly focusing on their sustainable development, and in public & academic institutions as well, through the spread of this knowledge followed by practical experimentation that results in creative problem solving and the exploration of potential opportunities for innovation. This approach leads to real & feasible ideas for innovation in SMEs, public and academic institutions, building structured processes for new politics that grants tailored support and takes innovation to the next level.




REmanufacture the food supply chain by testing INNovative solutions for zero inorganic WASTE

“Prevent waste disposal is more sustainable and less expensive”. In MED regions, innovation support services to agro-food chain is inadequate in the scope (confined to territorial domain) & transnational cooperation is poor. This traditional“local-based” approach to tech-transfer is currently a limitation.

REINWASTE aggregates, on MED scale, 3 influencing food "Clusters"(IT,FR,ES) in waste prevention field, in agro-food, to enhance transnational network of competence, select & test best available solutions & quickly transfer this knowledge. REINWASTE aims to bring a concrete contribution to the reduction of inorganic waste, favoring the adoption of greener innovative concepts by agriculture & food industry, with focus on SMEs. According to an initial analysis combining advanced tech-solutions (from EU R&D projects, R&I centres) with real companies’ requirements, REINWASTE tests them within 3 value chains (IT_diary; ES_horticulture; FR_Meat).

The Clusters will assess feasibility to launch a new service that systematizes offer-demand of innovative solutions for waste prevention.

3 Action Plans will be produced that galvanize the targets set by S3 for SMEs of primary & industry sector in MED regions.

3 Protocols will be issued for waste minimisation in entire food chains.

Transferability plans will be developed for other agro-food chains & other relevant sectors.


Mediterranean Trans-Regional Cooperation for green manufacturing innovation

The lack of pilot plants accessible by companies is a barrier limiting the industrial exploitation of European research results that can make manufacturing more sustainable. GREENOMED aims at establish a Cluster-governed  methodology enabling trans-regional cooperation to design & implement pilot plants, setting-up of trans-regional projects of pilot plants for green manufacturing innovation in the MED regions & establish the institutional environment supporting trans-national cooperation for green manufacturing innovation in the MED regions.


Transnational model, strategies & decision support for innovative clusters & business networks towards green growth, focusing on green e-procurement in EE/RES for energy refurbishment of public buildings

GRASPINNO provides innovative green procurement solutions for energy savings/efficient refurbishment of public buildings, focusing on smart cities and communities. Its goals are to improve the capacity of Public Authorities (PAs) to manage the energy efficiency of buildings, moving towards nearly zero energy building & strengthen SMEs to enter the green energy market. Consolidating EU results from ePrior, PEPPOL (CIP), CO-EFFICIENT & GRASP (MED), we validate an integrated framework of strategies, methods, databases & tools at a wide range of MED pilots. Replicability, transferability & leverage effect allow us to provide smart/low-cost/sustainable solutions to PAs and SMEs in the whole MED region.


The project will capitalize results of LIFE+ "Adapt2change" project by promoting, disseminating & transferring innovative Greenhouses in the MED area, minimizing water & energy demand.

The project will stimulate environmental awareness on issues related to energy & water efficiency & sustainable production, contributing to Green Growth & promoting sustainable development. Particularly, the partners will (main outputs):

- Create a transnational innovative cluster / agricultural network 

- Develop tailored policy recommendations enhancing existing framework for eco-innovation investments

- Transfer existing knowledge gained through the elaboration of a joint MED Action Plan & e-learning platform/training course material/workshops/webinars

- Identify possible financial opportunities formulated to the needs of each region.



GREEN and smart Mobility INDustry innovation

The Green Mind project aims to develop and strengthen SMEs’ economic competitiveness and innovation capacities in the field of green and smart mobility in the Mediterranean area.

Green and smart mobility includes transport services and technologies (vehicles and components, computer applications, clean fuels, infrastructure, etc.) aiming to improve the mobility of people and goods and to reduce its environmental impacts. This innovation field of the MED area is transverse and concerns different sectors (transport and logistics, automotive, information technology, energy). It is developing quickly as a result of technological change but also in response to the growing need of reducing the environmental impacts of transport in the context of more and more restrictive environmental policies.
