When & where

The project will have a life span of three years beginning from November 2016. The territories that it will influence are initially the territories of MED area but the scope is broader by reaching audiences beyond MED.

The Interreg-MED Green Growth Community is designed to face our territories’ challenges by exchanging knowledge, creating a viable framework of communication and collaboration among the ones that hold the keys to provoke the changes needed. It will be a living organism that is born in the  INTERREG-MED framework, it will grow and during its lifespan will fight to invent solutions for its habitat improvement (MED territory). There are main challenges that the MED area is facing:

1. Competition from other countries/areas in the world has increased dramatically

2. Culture of innovation has to be reinforced

3. There is a need for more investments in R&D

4. There is a great need for the improvement of competitiveness of green MED SME’s

5. Sectorial development potential deserves to be better promoted throughout MED area

6. Competition in production, agriculture, manufacturing from neighbouring regions

7. Energy efficiency planning is still underdeveloped while green procurements are not widely implemented yet

8. There is an increase of urban pressure and demographic changes on the economy and non-sustainability in the MED cities

9. Increasing difficulties for the socioeconomic inclusion of young people are observed
The project's approach in addressing common territorial aforementioned challenges/joint assets, in the field of Green Growth, is driven by:

  • creating bridges among succesful EU environmental clusters in Northern Europe & MED clusters so as for innovation and knowledge to be shared
  • communicating and bringing together all stakeholders from the quadruple helix so as for innovation to be reinforced
  • using business institutes and stakeholders from the market that can approach the modular projects and probably invest in their ideas
  • giving special attention to green growth challenges in collaboration with the rest of horizontal projects
  • reaching broader audiences exploiting various communication channels especially via innovative social media tools
  • testing new agro-food schemes, promoting quality and differentiation of MED products, adapting updated technologies in the food supply chain
  • promoting innovation in energy efficiency planning and introducing new methods for targeted and more feasible green procurements
  • adapting novelties in cities’ management and innovative technological solutions can create more wealth, new jobs and new opportunities especially for young scientists.
